Uninstalling Qt 3

normally the path is /usr/local/Trolltech/Qt-VERSION/bin; You seem to miss the Qt there . Why dont you search the path of Qt4 ? and then put it in the profile. The Book is right in the way that, some of the linux distros use .profile instead of .bash_profile

RE: how to link to statis libray

Here is a small example I had posted earlier creating a QT Library You can download the example I have given ( probaby this is the link to the tar file ) You could search the forum before posting, this would really help prevent duplication

RE: Uninstalling Qt 3

You need not uninstall. rather use set the path so that Qt-4's qmake gets invoked. How ? PATH=/path/to/Qt4/bin:$PATH and then compile in the same terminal. Alternately update the bash_profile so that PATH is set automatically next time.

RE: Acessing parent's widget

parent() would give you a QObject pointer. so use qt_cast in Qt3 and qobject_cast<> in qt4 to cast to Parent Object and then access its datamembers FYI: there is a function call parentWidget()

AFAIK, QTextBrowser is a the minimal Browser available in Qt & it does not have a status bar. Are you referring to the helpviewer example ?
