Open file by dropping on program icon

I am new to Qt, moving from infamous VS.
Does anyone have a simple example of running an application by dragging a file onto the icon for the app?
If I have an app called QxDrop and it started as a simple console "Hello World" example, I would like to modify so that the app sits on my desktop and I can drag a text file onto the icon and it will open the console and, instead of "Hello World" it would output:
>> Opened "C:/Bob.txt"
for example.
I can't find a simple example of how to get the icon to work to say Hello World, much less dragging an icon onto it.
Thanks

I am running LinuxMint! Forgot that and it's slightly improtant.
