Uploading PHP CMS to a web server

Hello guys! Just a newbie here. Hope someone could help me.

We have this school project for our Web Development class where we have to create a website/web portal/web app. We decided to do a CMS from scratch, and it's customized to fit the requirements of the "client". While our client is real (a local organization of tailors), we're currently saving our site in XAMPP. Since we're nearing completion, we're looking for a good web host where we can transfer our PHP files from htdocs to the web server without that much hassle. Anyone who has a suggestion?

Also, we're thinking of making it an e-commerce site, but with the limited time and knowledge in PHP, we won't be able to improve its security for online transactions. Any tips?

Good choice of language. Since you're using PHP and you mentioned that you're hosting it locally in XAMPP, most likely you're using MySQL as database. I would say get a PHP or MySQL web hosting provider.

I had a similar project back in college. My jsp web app was hosted in FatCow and had no problems with uploading it, though I don't know how they'd do in PHP.

Some institutions that I know have their own servers for hosting their students' projects. You might want to check out if your school has one before buying a hosting plan. :)

Thanks for the feedback, LizaH!

Anyway, what's the difference between PHP and MySQL hosting providers? I checked and there aren't many MySQL hosting providers listed here: http://www.webhostingsearch.com/mysql-hosting.php though FatCow is in the list.

Sadly, our school doesn't host their students' web projects. It's just the professor's choice if they'd require their students to have their projects up in the internet.
