How to install with Release conf

I'm new, and I got a problem: I found that default Qt4.1.2 installation on Linux doesn't come with the Release makefile. While in Windows, there are Makefile.Release and Makefile.Debug after qmake.

Can any one tell me how to turn on the release mode in compiling Qt apps?
I'm using Debian etch, upgraded to unstable, apt installed qt4.1.2 with debug component.
I've also tried compiling from source, but no difference in result.
